Speaker: Dr. Hartwell Francis

Hartwell Francis received a PhD in theoretical linguistics from the University of Colorado, Boulder.  In 2006 he became the founding Director of the Cherokee Language Program at Western Carolina University.  He moved the program from full grant funding to its current university-funded program status.  He moved on to take the Education Curriculum Developer position with Kituwah Preservation and Education Program of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.  In 2021 he became an honorary member of the EBCI.
