Five Smooth Stones
Dr. Edward Frost. While browsing through some actual paper files recently I came across a booklet entitled "Five Smooth Stones." It was a published sermon by the late James Luther Adams. Adams was without question the pre-eminent theologian of Unitarian Universalism. In his sermon, he offered five principles of liberal religion, which he called "Five Smooth Stones." I was privileged to be at our School of Theology at the University of Chicago when Mr. Adams was a visiting lecturer (in keeping with Harvard tradition he avoided the title "Dr."). I remember him fondly and want to share the five principles with you in his memory (Adams died in 1994 at the age of 90).
